Children in Gaza need hope

“Gaza is hell on earth for children.” Those are the words of the Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres. This report from Save the Children explains why.
In Gaza, as elsewhere in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, the abnormal has become normal, by dint of constant repetition. Nothing about the life of children in Gaza is normal.

In 2012 the US Secretary of State, Hilary Clinton, said that the situation in Gaza was “unsustainable”. It has deteriorated since then. The UN wrote a report that Gaza by 2020 would be “unliveable”. Two million people still exist there. It’s not really a life. Least of all for children, who need hope stemming from opportunity.

It is important to remember and speak of Gaza. Locking down two million people for 15 years cannot be justified. Western Governments, including our own, know it is unacceptable – but it is tolerated, because it is easier to tolerate it than to work seriously to end it.
